The Delta State government has emphasized the implementation of stringent measures to combat drug abuse in order to decrease the crime rate nationwide. During a courtesy visit by the state Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. John Tunde, the Deputy Governor of the state, Monday Onyeme, highlighted the strong connection between drug abuse and criminal activities. Onyeme expressed gratitude to the NDLEA for their efforts in safeguarding humanity and their contribution towards minimizing drug abuse and associated offenses in Delta State, ensuring a safe environment for investment due to the state’s notably low crime rate.

He said: “Once drug abuse is effectively checked, the rate of crime in society will reduce.”

“The work you do is very important to us because of the correlation between drug abuse and crime.

“Where there is high incidence of drug abuse, the rate of crime is high. It is good that NDLEA has greatly tackled drug abuse in our state but you should not rest on your oars.”

He provided assurance that the administration led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori would consistently collaborate with the agency and other relevant organizations dedicated to improving society.

Previously, the state Commander of the NDLEA informed the deputy governor that they had visited his office to brief him on their ongoing initiatives.
