The Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council has requested the removal of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and an investigation into his use of donor funds during the February 25, 2023, Election.

During a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Otumba Akin Osuntokun, the Director General of the Campaign Council, expressed the view that the INEC chairman had caused significant harm to the country’s electoral process and should be held accountable for his actions.

Osuntokun suggested that Yakubu should be prosecuted based on the same standards applied to the arrest and ongoing prosecution of the Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for his actions during the previous elections. He emphasized that the actions of the Adamawa State REC were a reflection of what the INEC Chairman did on a national scale.

Osuntokun further pointed out that election observer groups, both domestic and international, unanimously reported that the election was severely flawed, and the declared outcome of the Presidential election by INEC did not meet international standards.
