NDLEA Nabs Europe-Bound Undergraduate At Abuja Airport With Drugs





A 19-year-old student named Benjamin Daberechi has been apprehended by operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. He was arrested for his involvement in an attempt to smuggle 7.2 kg of methamphetamine hidden in crayfish to Europe, where he intended to go for his studies.

Daberechi was taken into custody on Wednesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja while going through the departure procedures for Turkish Airlines flight TK 0624.

According to a statement released on Sunday by Femi Babafemi, the agency’s spokesperson, the suspect, during his interrogation, stated that he was traveling to Cyprus for educational purposes. However, upon inspection of his belongings, a white substance was discovered, which tested positive for methamphetamine.

The statement read, “Operatives of the NDLEA, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja arrested a 19-year-old student, Benjamin Daberechi, for attempting to export 7.2Kg of methamphetamine concealed in crayfish to Europe where he was going for undergraduate studies.

“While being interviewed by operatives, Daberechi claimed he was a student on his way to Cyprus for studies, but upon a thorough search of his luggage, he was found in possession of 7.2kg of whitish substance neatly concealed inside a sack of crayfish.

“A field test of the substance however proved positive to Methamphetamine.”
