On Monday, the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, presented a group of 18 suspected kidnappers, which included two teenagers accused of planning their own abduction and demanding N100,000 as ransom. The siblings, aged 15 and 13, currently in Junior Secondary School 3 and Senior Secondary School 1 respectively, explained to reporters that they devised this plan as a way to retaliate against their mother, who had been subjecting them to mistreatment and making their lives unbearable.
One of the girls said “I was the one who initiated the plan because I wanted to punish my mother, who has been behaving as if she is not my mother. I never wanted to use the money for anything but just to punish her.”
The Amotekun commander, Adetunji Adeleye, provided details regarding the apprehension of the two young girls. According to him, the minors, hailing from Oka-Akoko in the Akoko South West Local Government Area of the state, orchestrated their own kidnapping. They demanded a ransom of N100,000 from both their parents and the community’s traditional ruler.
Adeleye explained that the two girls were apprehended in a hotel after spending four days there. He stated, “Upon receiving the report from their parents about their children’s abduction, we promptly took action. When the kidnappers called for ransom, we traced their phone number and successfully apprehended them.” The young girls justified their actions by attributing them to their mother’s excessive strictness and mistreatment.
“We appreciate the Department of State Service (DSS) for assisting us in apprehending them. When they were negotiating, they even threatened the traditional ruler that if the ransom was not paid within two hours they are going to kill the victims without knowing that they are the criminals perpetrating the act.”
