Man City Beat Bayern Munich In Tokyo Friendly

Manchester City secured a 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich on Wednesday during their pre-season tour in Japan, with goals from James McAtee and Aymeric Laporte. This marked Manchester City’s second win of the tour.

Last season, Bayern suffered a 4-1 aggregate defeat against City in the Champions League quarter-finals. However, City went on to claim the Champions League title by defeating Inter Milan 1-0 in the final, achieving a historic treble.

The match in Tokyo started cautiously, with both teams sizing each other up in the stifling conditions of Japan National Stadium. Leroy Sane made an attempt for City in the 17th minute, but his shot was blocked by Nathan Ake. Two minutes later, his free-kick hit the bar.

McAtee, who spent the previous season on loan at Sheffield United, opened the scoring for City in the 21st minute after tapping in a rebound from Rico Lewis’ effort.

In the second half, both teams made significant changes to their line-ups, and water breaks were taken to combat the intense heat in Tokyo. Bayern managed to level the score with nine minutes remaining, as Mathys Tel converted a rebound. However, Laporte secured the victory for City five minutes later, capitalizing on a rebound set up by Phil Foden.

Looking ahead, Manchester City is scheduled to face Atletico Madrid in Seoul before returning to England to play against Arsenal in the Community Shield. Meanwhile, Bayern will have one more game in Tokyo against J-League side Kawasaki Frontale before traveling to Singapore to take on Liverpool.
