2023 Census: We’re Waiting For Tinubu’s Order- Federal Commissioner

The National Population Commission (NPC) has made all necessary arrangements for the 2023 population and housing census. Clifford Zirra, the NPC Federal Commissioner in Adamawa, revealed that the commission is awaiting instructions from President Bola Tinubu to begin the census. Zirra spoke during an interactive session with media executives in Yola, where he discussed the commission’s readiness for the census.

He mentioned that Tinubu is content with the commission’s progress so far and emphasized the importance of the census in influencing the nation’s future.

“It provides us with accurate and up-to-date data about our population, which is indispensable for effective planning and development.

“The information collected during the census will serve as the foundation for policy formulation, resource allocation, and the implementation of various social and economic programs.

“The Commission welcomes the decision of the Federal Government on the postponement of the conduct of the census in order to give the new administration the opportunity to have inputs in the census process,” he said.

He stated that the delay has allowed the commission to enhance its procedures and technologies for conducting the inaugural digital census. Zirra also revealed that the commission completed essential arrangements for the census, including the Enumeration Area Demarcation, pre-tests, trial census, field staff training, nationwide ICT infrastructure setup, and other related tasks.

Alhaji Abubakar Hamma-Adama, the NPC Director in the state, expressed gratitude for the assistance and cooperation between the commission and local media organizations in the state throughout the preparation process.

“We are grateful and thankful, also we want to solicit your continued support during the census whenever the date is fixed.

“Really, census will be successful only if there is good publicity and enlightenment,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commission has also commemorated the 2023 World Population Day with theme “Unleashing the Power of Gender Equality: Uplifting the Voices of the Women and Girls to Unlock Our World’s Infinite Possibilities”.
