Around twenty individuals were reportedly killed and over ten others were wounded by assailants in Heipang District of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area in the North Central region of Nigeria. Community residents recounted that the attackers arrived during the early hours of Thursday, launching an invasion while the inhabitants were asleep. Despite the efforts of local vigilantes armed with Dane guns, they were unable to repel the assailants due to the attackers’ superior firepower.
During the confrontation, four of the vigilantes lost their lives. The attackers further exacerbated the situation by igniting several houses, resulting in the tragic deaths of sleeping residents who were unable to flee the abrupt assault.
John Mark Pam, who experienced the loss of five family members including his brother Dung Mark, along with Dung Mark’s wife and three children, shared that the assailants entered their compound, set the residence ablaze, and mercilessly killed all members of the family while they were asleep.
The incident was verified by DSP Alfred Alabo, the Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Police Command. He affirmed that security measures have been strengthened in the community, and law enforcement personnel are actively pursuing the attackers.
