In an effort to enhance the well-being of senior citizens within his community of Nkwelle-Ezunaka in Anambra State, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, also known as Fr. Ebube Muonso, the founder and Spiritual Director of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, has initiated a program wherein over 300 elderly individuals are provided with a lifelong monthly stipend. This step has been taken to ensure that the elderly residents are able to adequately care for themselves throughout their lives.
Notable beneficiaries of this initiative include Elder Chris Eluemuno, who once served as the Chairman of the Anambra State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, as well as members of the Nze na Ozo and Ogbuefi societies within the locality. The initial disbursement of the monthly allowance, amounting to N5,000, was carried out on Wednesday at the Afunwa Shopping Mall/Events Centre in Nkwelle-Ezunaka.
According to Fr. Obimma who vowed to sustain the payment from now till his death, “the Bible tells us to support the needy and in John 10:10, Christ said that He came so that you may have life and have it in abundance and I am taking part in the Christ Ministry because Christ himself preached the good news and gave food to the poor people.
“It is always good to take care of the elderly ones. I equally have a special package for their hospital bills, though secretly. I will open an account for them. I have a soft spot for the elderly. I will continue to pay them the salary until I die. I will write it as my will.
“It is a remarkable venture, I thank the cleric, it shows that our Nkwelle-Ezunaka community has produced a son. I am one of the beneficiaries, as I am 75 years now. It is a commendable venture,” he stated.
Earlier on, Chief Willie Okafor, the President General of Nkwelle-Ezunaka Union (NEU), along with Mrs. Iyom Irene, who serves as the chair-lady of the community’s IIyom society, conveyed their contentment with the generous act of Rev. Fr. Ebube Muonso. They also offered prayers to God, asking for blessings and longevity upon him.
Adding to the sentiments, Hon. Ubaka Onwuanyi, the manager of the elders’ salary scheme, praised the Priest for stepping in to assist the elderly members of the community and beseeched God to provide ongoing guidance and protection for him.
During their individual remarks, Ogbuefi Willy Ayadike, the head of the Ogbuefi society (grand patron), and Chief Christopher Igwenagu, among other individuals, expressed their prayers for the clergyman and commended him for his benevolent gesture.
