President Tinubu would undermine democracy and potentially trigger instability in the state.

The Network of Bayelsa Professionals (NBP) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to meddle in the upcoming November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa State, emphasizing the importance of fairness and democratic progress.
The group’s plea for presidential impartiality comes amidst speculation that President Tinubu has committed to supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva, even to the extent of involving the military to secure his victory.
Reports suggest that members of the APC within the state are celebrating the President’s supposed promise to ensure Sylva’s success, utilizing military influence if necessary. Allegedly, some APC leaders in the state shared this assertion in a viral social media video after a recent meeting between Tinubu and Sylva at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
However, the Network of Bayelsa Professionals stated on Sunday that if these allegations hold truth, President Tinubu would undermine democracy and potentially trigger instability in the state.
The group said: “Tinubu should realise that he still has a burden hanging on his neck because of his emergence and should not double that burden but use the coming elections to begin to redeem himself.
“We, therefore, call on the president to be mindful of those who want to use him to disrupt the peace and stability in the state because of their desperate ambition.
“Bayelsans are not preparing for war but for elections. The emphasis should be on ballots and not bullets. PVC and not AK-47 rifles. We have lost innocent people in the past because of the role played by some security agents in the past.”
While emphasizing their stance against transforming the state into a battleground through the election, they also urged Tinubu to caution the institutions overseeing the election process. They advocated for the fair counting of people’s votes and discouraged the instigation of tension or needless anxiety prior to, during, and after the election.
