Police Arrest Suspected Cultist, Kidnapper In Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have apprehended an alleged cultist who is also believed to be associated with a group of notorious kidnappers. This arrest followed an inquiry into the murder of Regina Ogana, who, along with her husband and other family members, was abducted on August 2, 2023. The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, revealed this in an official statement on Sunday in Warri.

Edafe mentioned that the Command received an additional distress call from the deceased’s husband, reporting a suspicious call from his brother, Eseoghene Ezekiel Obeje, aged 28. Obeje claimed to be kidnapped and demanded a ransom of N500,000, which was subsequently deposited into his account. In response, Commissioner of Police CP Wale Abass instructed Divisional Police Officer Oreropke to conduct an intelligence-based investigation and apprehend the culprits.

Acting on technologically sourced information, the Divisional Anti-Crime Patrol team, led by DPO CSP Paul E. Oboware, raided Odovie community in Ughelli North LGA on August 11, 2023. They arrested Eseoghene Ezekiel Obeje at the same location where N1,300,000.00 had been paid as ransom for his elder brother’s release. Police spokesperson mentioned that investigation uncovered Obeje’s affiliation with the Eiye Confraternity. It was revealed that he staged his own kidnapping and likely orchestrated the abduction of his brother and other family members, resulting in Regina Ogana’s death.

Presently, the suspect is in police custody, and an ongoing investigation is underway.
