NRC Suspends Operations In Warri-Itakpe Rail Over Derailment

On Tuesday, the Nigerian Railway Corporation Management announced the suspension of Warri-Itakpe Train Services due to a derailment at the Ajaokuta station on Monday, Waffi TV learnt.

After a suspension of services, the WITS had resumed operations on April 24, 2023, following a derailment incident in January 2023 that had put 148 passengers and 38 crew members at risk.

However, a statement from the Management on Tuesday indicated their efforts to address the situation at the derailment site and conduct necessary repairs for the derailed locomotive to be operational again. The train schedule for Tuesday would not be in operation.

The statement reads, “Our highly esteemed passengers, we are sad to let you know that due to the derailment of our passenger’s train( WITS 01) yesterday at Ajakuta station our train schedule for today will not run.

“We are very sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused.

“Work on the derailment site in order the fix the derailed locomotive back to track will commence today.

“Therefore no movement today, further communication on the commencement of operations will be promptly communicated.

“We regret the hardship this might have caused you as u take other alternatives.”
