An 84-year-old man named Gabriel Uhuwa has been apprehended by Edo State Police Command for reportedly murdering his wife due to her refusal to engage in sexual activity with him. The arrest was confirmed on Wednesday during a parade of 198 suspects, who had been taken into custody for various crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, unlawful possession of firearms, murder, and cultism.
Chidi Nwabuzor, the Public Relations Officer of the command, stated that Uhuwa was taken into custody for the alleged murder of his 75-year-old wife, as she declined his advances for sexual intimacy. According to Nwabuzor, there had been ongoing conflicts between Uhuwa and his wife concerning her unwillingness to engage in sexual relations whenever he requested. The spokesperson also mentioned that the elderly man displayed no remorse and believed his actions were the most suitable solution to his problem.
Speaking with journalists, Uhuwa said, “My wife was not listening to me. Any time I asked her to come and sleep with me, she always declined. We have seven children together, five boys and two girls.” The suspect said he had reported the matter to his children and that one of her daughters came to talk to his wife but she didn’t listen.
“I reported the matter to my family and her family members but she failed to listen to them and continued her old ways and I was hearing information that pastors were sleeping with her.
“Each time I demanded sex, either she would tell me she was sick or she had an ulcer, yet I was hearing a rumour that she was sleeping with other men and I don’t have money to carry prostitutes,” the suspect added.
After filing his complaint, he expressed that his children declined to provide him with financial assistance and ignored his phone calls. He claimed that they believed his deceased wife’s negative portrayal of him.
“So, on Saturday last week in the afternoon in the house, I picked up a cutlass and macheted her. I did it in anger because she was not obeying me and I want people to 1know of it,” he added.
Nevertheless, he expressed remorse for taking his wife’s life after the act had been committed.
