On Thursday, the Federal High Court in Lagos dismissed the firearm charges against Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Justice Nicholas Oweibo ruled that the charges were struck out due to a lack of diligent prosecution.
This decision followed a withdrawal request presented by Mohammed Abubakar, the Director of Public Prosecution of the Ministry of Justice. During the previous court date, the DPP orally requested the charge against Emefiele to be withdrawn, citing substantial reasons based on evolving facts and the need for additional investigations.
The court was urged to approve this application.
