Famous Nollywood star Chinedu Ikedieze, known as Aki, has discussed the difficulties he encountered during his childhood due to being diagnosed with stunted growth. In a recent conversation with renowned media figure Chude Jideonwo, the 45-year-old actor disclosed that upon hearing the doctor inform his mother about his condition, he experienced great distress.
He also shared that he contemplated suicide at one point because of his struggles with the delayed growth condition.
Ikedieze said: “Something happened when I was nine years and six months old. I remember the doctor saying to my mum; ‘Madam, what he has is stunted growth.’
“That was when I started hearing the words, stunted and retarded growth. I cried several times because I was bullied in school and even at home because I wasn’t growing properly. It got bad, there were times I thought of ending it all. Thank God I no grow for Lagos because Third Mainland Bridge no far o [laughs].”
The actor also conveyed his appreciation to his mother for her constant backing during the trying times.
Ikedieze mentioned that when he first crossed paths with his friend Osita Iheme, also known as Pawpaw, there was an instant chemistry between them.
At the ages of 45 and 41 respectively, Ikedieze and Osita are celebrated Nigerian actors recognized as ‘Aki and Pawpaw’. Over a span of two decades, they have collaborated in numerous movies, showcasing their remarkable on-screen partnership.
