Mbappe Scores On PSG Return In Toulouse Draw

This left PSG coach Luis Enrique still in search of his first win.

Kylian Mbappe marked his return to Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday by both winning and successfully converting a penalty during a 1-1 draw against Toulouse. This return followed a resolution to a contract dispute with the French champions.

Although initially benched, the France captain entered the game in the 51st minute, swiftly breaking the deadlock by earning a foul from Rasmus Nicolaisen and converting the ensuing penalty just past the hour mark. Zakaria Aboukhlal later equalized with a penalty three minutes before the end, courtesy of a foul by his Morocco teammate Achraf Hakimi.

This left PSG coach Luis Enrique still in search of his first win.

Mbappe’s appearance marked his first for PSG since a friendly on July 21, as he was excluded from the pre-season tour in Japan and South Korea and missed the opening 0-0 draw against Lorient due to his contract dispute. During this period, he trained with players whom the club was looking to offload. However, the 24-year-old rejoined the squad following “constructive and positive discussions” with the club the previous Sunday. This turnaround occurred just two days before Neymar’s transfer to Saudi side Al-Hilal, reportedly under the condition set by Mbappe for signing a new contract in 2022. Mbappe had been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid during this time.

In the match against Toulouse, Mbappe was accompanied by new signing Ousmane Dembele, with both close friends starting on the bench. PSG, who had struggled to create clear-cut chances in their previous game against Lorient, faced similar limitations in the first half against Toulouse, with Hakimi denied by goalkeeper Guillaume Restes and Goncalo Ramos thwarted by a sharp reflex save.
