Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, shared a cryptic post on social media this Sunday, weeks after the Senate did not approve his ministerial nomination. On X, formerly Twitter, he quoted lyrics from the late Jamaican singer Bob Marley’s song ‘Who The Cap Fit.’

El-Rufai said, “Bob Marley of blessed memory is one of most talented musicians of all time. My love for reggae music is connected with his songs and music.”

The ex-governor thereafter posted lyrics of the song:

“Man to man is so unjust, children
“Ya don’t know who to trust
“Your worst enemy could be your best friend
“And your best friend, your worse enemy
“Some will eat and drink with you
“(Some will eat and drink with you)
“Then behind them su-su ‘pon you
“Then behind them su-su ‘pon you)
“Only your friend know your secrets
“So only he could reveal it
“And who the cap fit, let them wear it!
“Who the cap fit, let them wear it!”

El-Rufai was among the 48 ministerial nominees sent to the Senate for confirmation by President Bola Tinubu. While the Senate approved and confirmed 45 of the President’s appointees, they withheld confirmation for El-Rufai and two others due to concerns related to “security clearance.”

On August 1, 2023, the Senate conducted a screening for El-Rufai, who had served two terms as the Governor of Kaduna from May 2015 to May 2023. Notably, he was one of the nine former governors included in the President’s ministerial list.

During El-Rufai’s Senate screening, Senator Karimi Sunday, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, presented a compelling petition that raised concerns about insecurity, unity, and national cohesion in relation to the former Kaduna governor.

Subsequently, reports indicated that El-Rufai was seen at the Villa after his Senate confirmation was not granted. It was also reported that he withdrew his interest in becoming a minister in the Tinubu administration.
