On Saturday, August 26, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State announced the disbursement of N36.4 million as relief funds for the 1,215 youth corps members who have been deployed to the state for their national service. Each of these corps members will receive N30,000.
The governor paid a visit to the NYSC orientation camp over the weekend, which occurred four days following his attendance at the swearing-in ceremony of the youth corps members during the camp’s reopening in Maiduguri. Prior to addressing them, he conducted an inspection of the guard of honor that had been arranged by the corps members.
Furthermore, Governor Zulum has also provided 100 bags of rice, 10 cows, 10 bags of 100 kg beans, and 10 gallons of cooking oil for a special meal to be prepared and enjoyed by the youth corps members during their ongoing three-week orientation camp.
He said, “We want to extend palliatives to members of the National Youth Service Corps,” he announced, explaining, “Each one of you will receive the sum of N30,000, that amount will be credited to your accounts as soon as your bank details are provided to me”.
He continued: “In addition to that, we have provided you with 100 bags of rice, 10 bags of 100kg beans, 10 gallons of cooking oil and 10 bulls.”
The governor urged the corps members to strictly follow the camp regulations, promoting harmonious living amongst themselves and engaging in activities that contribute to national peace.
“I want you to be dedicated and loyal to constituted authorities. Make friends in this part of the country so that together we can build a prosperous Nigeria with sustainable economic growth and development”, Governor Zulum urged.
Governor Zulum also conveyed his appreciation to the Federal Government for enhancing security conditions in Borno State, which paved the way for the revival of the NYSC orientation camp in Maiduguri after a suspension lasting 13 years.
