Spain Defender Alba Retires From International Duty

Spain’s national football team received the news of Jordi Alba’s retirement from international football, as confirmed by the Spanish football federation on Friday. The former Barcelona left-back, currently plying his trade in the United States with Inter Miami, led the team to victory in the UEFA Nations League this past June.

Alba, who first represented Spain in 2011 and accumulated 92 caps while scoring nine goals, notably contributed to Spain’s Euro 2012 triumph over Italy by finding the net. This crucial goal played a part in La Roja’s successful defense of the championship.

“From the Spanish football federation, we have eternal gratitude for this brilliant path, thank you, Jordi,” wrote the RFEF in a statement.

With Alba stepping aside, Spain now has several alternatives for the left-back position, including Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde, who previously filled Alba’s role at the club level.
