In a remarkable development, Dcn. Kingsley Otuaro, the immediate past, Deputy Governor of Delta State, has authored an open missive addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, advocating for the renewal of the contract with Tantita Security Services Ltd.

This company assumes a pivotal role in safeguarding the nation’s oil and gas assets while combating the scourge of crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the volatile Niger Delta region.

Otuaro, in his impassioned epistle, implored President Tinubu to contemplate the significance of upholding the existing partnership with Tantita Security Services Ltd, a firm purportedly owned by Chief Government Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo. He articulated, “Our national and sub-national governments’ fiscal foundations have invariably rested upon the tripod of revenue from crude oil and gas sales, tax receipts intricately linked to oil and gas subsidiary investments, and both external and internal borrowings.”

The former Deputy Governor brings a unique perspective to bear on this matter. Hailing from the oil-rich communities of Okerenkoko and Obotobo in Delta State, he possesses an intimate comprehension of the tribulations posed by crude oil theft and vandalism. He accentuated, “Endowed with the competence and profound insight requisite to tackle the intricacies and sophistication characterizing the syndicated criminal activities of oil theft, oil asset vandalism, and the mitigation of environmental despoliation in the region, Tantita Security Services Limited is indeed a perfect fit.”

Otuaro underscored the undeniable reality that Nigeria heavily depends on its oil and gas sector for revenue generation, and any disruption in this sector could portend dire economic consequences. He beseeched President Tinubu to exercise prudence in the midst of the ongoing deliberations concerning the renewal of Tantita Security Services Ltd’s contract, highlighting the remarkable strides taken in combating oil theft and asset depredation. Otuaro posited, “After all, it is an established fact that the campaign against the menace of oil theft and the destruction of national oil and gas assets has already made substantial headway. In light of this, why the preposterous and untenable clamor for changing a triumphant alliance?”

Within his missive, Otuaro alluded to the tumultuous era following the 2015 general election when pivotal oil and gas installations became recurrent targets, precipitating a significant plummet in crude oil production and prices. He recounted his involvement as the Chairman of the Delta State Advocacy Committee Against Oil Assets Destruction, an initiative aimed at raising awareness about this issue and promoting advocacy campaigns. Otuaro expounded, “Concurrently, the government led by Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa in Delta State established the Delta State Advocacy Committee Against Oil Assets Destruction, and I was appointed as its Chairman.”

Furthermore, Otuaro accentuated his active participation in high-level meetings at the Presidential Villa, where he contributed to addressing the multifaceted challenges in the Niger Delta region, encompassing unrest and environmental concerns. It was during these deliberations that the decision to enlist the expertise of Tantita Security Services Ltd was ratified. Otuaro elucidated, “It is imperative to note that one of the conscientious outcomes of the Presidential visit to the region was the procurement of the services of Tantita Security Services Limited to collaborate with the Nigerian Navy and NNPCL in intensifying the battle against crude oil theft and fortifying the security of national oil and gas assets.”

Concluding his letter, Otuaro conveyed his unwavering confidence in the proficiency of Tantita Security Services Ltd, affirming their well-suited position to counter the sophisticated criminal activities associated with oil theft and asset vandalism in the Niger Delta region. Otuaro’s closing words resonated, “Please accept the assurance of my highest esteem.”

This open correspondence by the former Deputy Governor stands as a testament to the imperative of preserving and fortifying the fight against crude oil theft, thereby safeguarding Nigeria’s economic lifeblood.
