Tribunal Dismisses Obi’s Allegation Of Rigging

The PEPC has rejected the Labour Party (LP) and Mr. Peter Obi’s claim that the 2023 presidential election was manipulated in favor of President Bola Tinubu.

In its initial ruling delivered by Justice Abba Mohammed, the court determined that Obi and the LP failed to provide credible evidence to support their allegation of widespread corruption during the February 25 election. The court noted that although the Petitioners alleged irregularities, they did not specify where these infractions occurred.

Additionally, the court observed that while Obi and the LP claimed election rigging in 18,088 polling units nationwide, they couldn’t identify the locations of these polling units. The court also found that Obi’s accusation of fictitious results being attributed to President Tinubu and the APC by INEC lacked sufficient proof.

Furthermore, the Petitioners couldn’t specify the figures they alleged were deducted from their election results in various states, including Ondo, Oyo, Rivers, Yobe, Borno, Tabara, Osun, and Lagos.

The court also noted the Petitioners’ failure to identify polling units with over-voting or provide exact numbers of unlawful votes attributed to Tinubu by INEC.

After addressing the preliminary matters, Justice Haruna Tsammani, the head of the five-member panel, is presently delivering the court’s verdict on the main issue.
