The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially transferred assets recovered from a convicted fraudster, Aisosa Ohue, also known as Frederick Leonard, to an American victim named Cheryldene Cook.
“The convicted cheated the victim in a love scam while pretending to be a famous actor, Frederick Leonard”.
The spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, made this announcement in a statement released in Abuja on Friday.
The assets handed over to Cheryldene Cook include N19 million in cash and a three-bedroom semi-detached duplex located in Ward 36A Amagba Community in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo. Additionally, the property includes a Lexus E350 saloon car, an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and a Samsung A31 phone. The presentation of these assets to the victim took place in Abuja and was carried out by the Zonal Commander, ACE I Adebayo Adeniyi, and the Head of the Advanced Fee Fraud Section 1, ACE II Jimoh Rauf.
Cheryldene Cook, who traveled from the United States of America to receive the recovered items, was accompanied by her lawyer, Dr. Mike Nwosu. She expressed her gratitude to the EFCC for their efforts in recovering these assets. This legal action follows a January ruling by Justice C.E Nwecheonwu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kuje, which ordered the forfeiture of the assets after Ohue was convicted on three counts, including obtaining money through false pretenses.
