President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to convene with UAE leadership at 5 pm UAE time today in an effort to address the suspension of Emirates Airline flights to Nigeria, visa restrictions, and other diplomatic concerns, as per reliable information obtained by Waffi TV.
On Sunday night, Festus Keyamo, the Minister for Aviation and Aerospace Management, embarked on a trip to the Middle-Eastern nation to meet with the President, who had a layover following his departure from the G20 summit in India.
In a conversation with our correspondent, Festus Keyamo, SAN, the Minister for Aviation and Aerospace Management, confirmed his Sunday night journey and the planned meeting between officials from both nations at 5 pm today.
“I am in Abu Dhabi to join Mr President to sort out the twin issues of Dubai visas and Emirates flights to Nigeria. Both leaders are meeting by 5 pm Today,” the minister said in a chat with our correspondent.
Waffi TV report in October 2022, that the UAE enforced a visa ban on Nigerian citizens shortly after Emirates Airlines suspended its flights to Nigeria. This action was reportedly taken in response to Nigeria’s inability to repatriate billions of dollars in stranded funds.
Additionally, the Nigerian carrier Air Peace, which operated flights to Dubai, suspended its services in response to the UAE’s halt in visa issuance to prospective travelers.
During a recent meeting with Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria at Aso Rock, the President directed that issues pertaining to relations with Emirates Airlines and the issuance of visas to Nigerians be resolved “immediately.” He emphasized his willingness to personally intervene in these matters.
Announcing on Sunday, the Presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, conveyed that Tinubu is scheduled for a meeting with UAE authorities regarding this matter.
