The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled a list of 85 referees chosen to participate in a preparatory course leading up to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON. Notably, no Nigerian referees made it onto CAF’s recently disclosed shortlist.
This comprehensive roster encompasses various roles, including center referees, assistant referees, video assistant referees (VAR), technical instructors, physical trainers, VAR technicians, and IT support personnel. Egypt and Algeria stand out with the highest representation, each contributing three referees to the list.
Furthermore, the selection includes four VAR referees hailing from Mauritius, South Africa, Morocco, and Egypt. Additionally, seven technical instructors and physical trainers from Zimbabwe, Burundi, Cote D’Ivoire, Senegal, Morocco, and Djibouti were included.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be among the 24 nations competing for the championship at the 2023 AFCON finals. The competition is scheduled to be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
