Okpoye Welcomes IYC, Pledges Open Door Policy, Ensures Inclusiveness For OKYC, OYC

He emphasized his intention to welcome constructive ideas from all quarters to promote much-needed development.

Hon. Spencer Okubo Okpoye, the representative of the Ijaw Ethnic Nationality on the Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), has reiterated his commitment to maintaining an open-door policy for the benefit of the communities he serves.

This pledge was made during a joint courtesy visit by the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) World Wide and the Western Zone from Delta State, who visited his office in Warri on September 12, 2023. Hon. Okpoye expressed his dedication to collaborating with Chief Favour Izoukumor, the Executive Director of Social Services, and the entire Board to make a significant impact in addressing the development needs of oil-bearing communities. He emphasized his intention to welcome constructive ideas from all quarters to promote much-needed development.

The leader of the visiting delegation, Comr. Freedom Atigbi, commended Hon. Okpoye for his well-deserved appointment, highlighting his impressive performance in just three months. He also sought collaboration with the Commissioner and DESOPADEC to maintain peace, requesting monthly stipends to support the Ijaw Youth Council’s activities and promising support for the Governor and the Commission in their respective roles.

Comr. (Dr.) Doubra Collins Okotete, Chairman of the Western Zone, expressed felicitations for the appointment and urged the completion of ongoing projects, including the IYC Secretariat building at Bomadi. He also advocated for permanent DESOPADEC Zonal/Area Office buildings and skills acquisition programs for youth self-sufficiency.

Additionally, Hon. Okpoye assured the leadership of the Ogulagha Kingdom Youth Council (OKYC) and Obotobo II Youth Council of their inclusion in DESOPADEC’s initiatives during separate courtesy visits on the same day, September 12, 2023.
