FG, NLC Meeting Ends In A Deadlock

The meeting between the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Federal Government concluded without reaching an agreement, resulting in the scheduling of another meeting for a later date.

Today, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, is set to meet with representatives of the Trade Union Congress, led by its national president, Festus Osifo.

The meeting was initiated by Lalong in response to the NLC’s threat of an indefinite strike over what they termed as “anti-poor” policies of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration. It took place in Abuja on Monday and included senior ministry officials, NLC’s national president Joe Ajaero, general secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja, and the national president of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Titus Amba, among others.

However, no significant solutions or decisions were reached during the meeting. This follows a prior instance where the NLC had declined an earlier meeting organized by the minister in an attempt to avert a two-day nationwide strike, as previously reported.
