Gunmen in Enugu State have abducted a Catholic priest, Fr. Okide, and six others on the Eke-Egede-Affa Road in Udi Local Government Area. According to the Diocesan Chancellor and Secretary, Rev. Fr. Wilfred Chidi Agubuchie, the priest was taken on Sunday around 5:00 pm while en route to his parish, St. Mary Amofia-Agu in Affa.

An anonymous witness stated that the kidnappers left the other victims’ children in their vehicle, crying for help, until police officers arrived to assist.

The kidnappers have since contacted the victims’ relatives, demanding a ransom of N100 million for the release of Fr. Okide and the others. Meanwhile, the Catholic church has appealed for prayers for their safe and swift return.
