Protesters and fans of the late Nigerian musician, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, reportedly faced teargas dispersal on Thursday night at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State.
On Thursday, these individuals organized a candlelight procession as a tribute to the late singer. Clad in white T-shirts, they played and danced to the late artist’s songs, paying their final respects.
In a video shared by popular skit maker Oluwadolaz, a voice claimed, “We’ve been dispersed with teargas…”
While some sources suggested that police officers in the state fired the teargas canisters, a video on actress Iyabo Ojo’s Instagram live stream, seen by our correspondent, featured one attendee of the candlelight event saying, “I came out for my brother, Mohbad. This is the cab driver who helped me. They fired teargas. These people came from behind. We don’t know them. I don’t even know them. All the police officers were there securing us.”
Explaining further, another lady said, “We were sitting in front of the tollgate. We had a lot of police officers there. So, where the teargas came from, we don’t see it. We just saw the tear gas from the back. No car could move. It was this cab that helped us.”
