Bayelsa Guber: CAN Endorses Gov Douye Diri

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Bayelsa Chapter has expressed its support for Governor Douye Diri’s re-election bid in the upcoming November 11th governorship election in Bayelsa.

This endorsement was announced during a one-day interactive session between CAN and the Governor at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Swali, Yenagoa. Very Rev. Father Joseph Opelema, the state CAN Chairman, praised the Governor’s accomplishments in infrastructure development over the past three and a half years and called for his continued leadership.

Opelema emphasized the importance of having a God-fearing leader in the state and believed that Diri was the right choice. He commended the Governor for his dedication to prayer, support for the church, and various developmental initiatives.

Opelema also highlighted Diri’s commitment to timely salary payments, pensions, gratuities, and the construction of three senatorial roads, among other achievements. Despite endorsing Diri, Opelema urged all election contenders to maintain non-violence in the electoral process and allow the electorate to make their choice peacefully.

“We stand with you, Diri, on our choice for continuity and consolidation. You are our choice.

“We are impressed by your commitment to prayers and support for the church and CAN, as well as sponsorship of pilgrimage to the Holy land.

“We thank you for the construction of the three senatorial roads, Glory Drive phase two and commencement of the Glory Drive phase three,” he said.

In his reply, Governor Douye Diri expressed gratitude to the leadership of CAN for supporting his re-election campaign for a second term. He credited the achievements of his administration to both divine guidance and the unwavering support of the church.

Governor Diri acknowledged that this endorsement served as a motivating factor for him to continue working diligently, and he encouraged members to cast their votes for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming governorship election, allowing him to build upon his accomplishments.
