Speaker Declares 2 Reps’ Seats Vacant

On Tuesday, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, announced the vacancy of two seats and requested the Independent National Electoral Commission to arrange bye-elections for the respective federal constituencies.

This occurred due to the appointment of Tanko Sunono and Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo as the Minister of State for Education and Minister of Interior by President Bola Tinubu.

The decision to declare the seats vacant was made after their resignation letters were read during a plenary session on Tuesday.

Tunji-Ojo had been elected to represent the Akoko North-East and Akoko North-West Federal Constituency of Ondo State, while Sunono represented the Yauri/Shanta/Ngaski Federal Constituency of Kebbi State.
