Strike: All Our Approaches To Govt Failed- NLC

Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), expressed that all attempts made by the Congress to negotiate with the Nigerian government regarding their demands have been unsuccessful.

Ajaero conveyed this during an interview with Arise Television on Wednesday.

He stated, “From item one to item seven, nothing has been achieved. That is the height of insensitivity. We are in an emergency asking for more time is a crime.”

It’s worth noting that the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had previously announced an indefinite strike scheduled to commence on October 3. These two labor unions have advised Nigerians to prepare by stockpiling food items due to the anticipated disruption of economic activities in the country.

Ajaero, along with TUC’s Festus Osifo, made this announcement following separate Emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meetings held in Abuja on Tuesday. They cited the alleged government insensitivity to the concerns of Nigerians, particularly in light of the removal of petrol subsidies and a perceived lack of proactive measures.
