The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal convened in Kaduna has ruled that the 2023 governorship election in Kaduna state is inconclusive. According to a report by Vanguard correspondent, the tribunal, during its recent session on Thursday, made this decision with a split vote of 2:1.
They have directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a supplementary election within 90 days. This 3-member panel, led by Justice Victor Oviawe, has ordered a re-run of the election in 24 polling units spanning seven wards across four local governments, involving 16,300 registered voters.
This verdict was delivered via Zoom, as the judges opted not to convene in a physical hall. This legal action was initiated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their candidate, Isah Mohammed Ashiru, who are contesting the election of Uba Sani as the Governor of Kaduna State, citing alleged irregularities and electoral fraud. They assert that their candidate, Isa Mohammed Ashiru, was the rightful winner of the election.
