Navy Arrests 8 Stowaways Inside Europe-Bound Ship

The Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft, located in Apapa, Lagos, detained eight stowaways on Thursday during the early hours.

These stowaways, all of Nigerian nationality, had clandestinely boarded the Tanker Ship CHARMINAR PANAMA, which was departing for Europe.

They were discovered in the vessel’s rudder compartment with some loaves of bread, biscuits, and sachets of water within Lagos Anchorage.

Lieutenant Commander Tunde Ali, the Base Operation Officer, reported that on September 28, 2023, at approximately 2:20 am, the Base’s patrol team received information regarding the presence of eight suspected stowaways on the CHARMINAR PANAMA and subsequently handed them over to the Nigeria Immigration Service in Apapa.

“The patrol team moved to the vessel and discovered eight men in the rudder of the vessel: John Festus,30; Kingsley James, 34; Egborjede Christopher, 43; Lucky Iweru, 46; Frank Uche,33; Omosheri Wilson, 33; Lisa Segun ,37 and Abu Majid 25.

“They were subsequently disembarked and taken on board.

” We are handing them over to the appropriate security Agency, which is the Nigeria Immigration Service, today, (yesterday)for appropriate action”.

Upon endorsing the handover documents, a spokesperson from the NIS named Daniel Duguryil mentioned that the stowaways would undergo a profiling process and subsequently be transferred to a suitable security agency for further scrutiny.
