Mudryk Finally Scores In Chelsea Win Against Fulham

Chelsea, who had struggled to score goals, finally found their scoring touch on Monday. They netted two goals in just 82 seconds to secure a 2-0 victory over Fulham, marking only their second Premier League win of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s injury-plagued team entered the match with just two points above the relegation zone and a meager five goals to their name. Despite missing early chances, Mykhailo Mudryk scored his first goal for Chelsea in the 18th minute, and Armando Broja quickly added another goal a minute later.

This crucial victory propelled Chelsea to mid-table and relieved some of the pressure on their new manager, Pochettino, as the team had gone three previous Premier League games without scoring.

Broja, making his first start since November 2022, missed an early chance from an offside position, while Mudryk also had an opportunity but fired over. Although Fulham had more possession, they struggled to threaten Chelsea’s inventive players in blue.

In the 18th minute, Chelsea broke the deadlock when a long pass from the back found Levi Colwill on the left. Colwill passed to Mudryk, who skillfully controlled the ball on his chest before calmly slotting it into the net, marking his first goal for the club since his transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk in January.

Chelsea swiftly extended their lead when Broja seized on a defensive error by Fulham’s Tim Ream, who inadvertently passed the ball to new signing Cole Palmer just outside the penalty box. Palmer played the ball forward, and it rebounded off Ream and into the net, doubling Chelsea’s lead.

With a lively performance, Chelsea had opportunities to increase their lead, but Enzo Fernandez’s shot narrowly missed the target.

In the first half, the home team struggled to register a single shot on goal, although Raul Jimenez came close with a header from Andreas Pereira’s corner just before halftime.

Mykhailo Mudryk didn’t feature in the second half and was substituted by defender Ian Maatsan.

After halftime, Fulham posed a greater threat, and manager Marco Silva introduced forwards Alex Iwobi and Carlos Vinicius within the first 10 minutes. Vinicius had a headed attempt, and there was a nervy moment for Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who managed to recover the ball after his goal kick was intercepted by Pereira.

Chelsea came very close to adding to their lead when Maatsan struck the left post, and Fulham’s goalkeeper Bernd Leno made a smart save from Fernandez’s follow-up shot.

Fulham had a golden opportunity to score a goal when Tom Cairney found Sasa Lukic in the six-yard box, but Lukic’s shot went straight to Sanchez.

Chelsea held on comfortably to move up to 11th place, ahead of Fulham based on goal difference.
