NAF Airstrikes Neutralise Several Terrorists In Lake Chad

On Monday, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) announced that it had successfully eliminated multiple Boko Haram/Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants through airstrikes in the Tumbuns region on the fringes of Lake Chad in Borno.

The statement was made by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for NAF.

Gabkwet explained that the airstrikes completely destroyed the terrorists’ hideouts, along with their structures and vital logistical support in the area.

These airstrikes occurred between September 27 and September 30, targeting Tumbun Fulani and Tumbun Shitu, following confirmation of the threat these terrorist activities posed to both military installations and the safety of law-abiding Nigerian residents in these locations. In Tumbun Fulani, the NAF observed terrorists loading jerricans onto two concealed gun trucks under shrubbery.

Consequently, NAF aircraft were deployed to intercept what appeared to be a significant logistics hub. After the airstrike, a Battle Damage Assessment revealed the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of the gun trucks. Similar airstrikes were carried out at Tumbun Shitu when structures believed to be terrorists’ hideouts were spotted hidden beneath dense foliage.

NAF reported that three gun trucks carrying terrorists were observed moving into the location, necessitating an urgent strike. Following the airstrike, multiple terrorists were confirmed neutralized, and the trucks were destroyed.

“The determination of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to significantly limit the activities of terrorists in the Northeast and indeed other parts of Nigeria remains on course.

“Operational gains by the AFN are indicative of improved synergy and cooperation by all security agencies as well as the unwavering support of all Nigerians,” he said.
