The American Petroleum Institute (API) has firmly refuted the issuance of any Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) certification to Opeans Nigeria Limited.
Despite Opeans Nigeria Limited’s previous claims of holding API certification, API clarified that it has not accredited or approved any training conducted by the company.
This revelation occurred in the context of a lawsuit (HOR/9/2023) filed at the Delta State High Court, which involves Opeans Nigeria Limited, API, Veriforce Limited Liability Company, and the Attorney-General of Delta State. API’s legal team, represented by Banwo & Ighodalo law firm, unequivocally stated that Opeans Nigeria Limited has no affiliation with API, and the BOSIET certificates issued by Opeans Nigeria Limited lack API accreditation.
Additionally, API discredited the claims made by Opeans Nigeria Limited in various newspapers regarding their supposed API certification. The lawsuit also exposed allegations of Opeans Nigeria Limited issuing fake and forged BOSIET certificates while falsely claiming accreditation and approval by API and Veriforce.
Anonymous industry experts revealed that this practice of awarding fraudulent BOSIET certificates by Opeans Nigeria Limited has been ongoing. They further alleged that regulatory bodies, like the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), have been complicit in covering up such fraudulent activities, which poses a risk to the safety of personnel in the industry.
The Delta State High Court has acknowledged and accepted all pertinent legal documents, with a ruling on the interlocutory application scheduled for October 10th, 2023.
