Malik Scott, Deontay Wilder’s trainer, is of the opinion that Anthony Joshua would emerge victorious in a bout against both Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou. Scott’s assessment is based on Fury’s recent performance against Ngannou in Saudi Arabia, where Fury struggled to secure an expected easy victory.
Ngannou, hailing from Cameroon, came close to defeating the WBC heavyweight champion in a 10-round non-title bout, almost causing one of the biggest upsets in sports history. Although Ngannou had Fury on the canvas in the third round, he ultimately lost through a split decision with scores of 95-94, 94-95, and 93-96, a result that left many boxing fans dissatisfied.
As other top contenders, including Joshua, express interest in facing Ngannou, Scott believes that if Joshua were to fight a Fury similar to the one who faced Ngannou, Joshua would come out as the victor.
“Anthony Joshua against Fury? That Fury, he’ll beat, and I believe (Joshua will) beat Ngannou,” said Scott when speaking to ESNews.
“There is only one man who knocks him out cold, and I think we know who that is, Deontay Wilder.”
Joshua has been strongly associated with a showdown against the hard-hitting American, Wilder. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, had previously indicated that they had essentially worked out all the details for the fight. However, this anticipated bout ultimately fell through, and no formal contracts were ever finalized between the two parties.
In an extraordinary ascent to stardom, Joshua, the 2012 Olympic gold medalist, became a world champion in his 16th professional fight. He recorded knockout victories in his first 20 matches, including his iconic 2017 win over Klitschko in what is regarded as one of the greatest fights in boxing history.
Wilder held the WBC heavyweight title from 2015 to 2020, successfully defending it ten times. He has seen action only once since his second loss to Fury in October 2021, achieving a first-round victory over Helenius.
