Oborevwori Vows Support For Skilled Local Contractors

On Thursday, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State affirmed that his administration would persist in supporting capable local contractors and, when necessary, collaborating with foreign ones for crucial projects. Governor Oborevwori made this declaration while conducting an inspection of both completed and ongoing projects in the local government areas of Ika North East and Aniocha South within the state.

Among the projects examined were the University of Delta (UNIDEL) faculties of Engineering and Environmental Sciences at the Owa-Alero campus, Ute-Okpu-Ute-Enugu Road, and Isheagu-Ewulu Road. He also expressed his appreciation for the former governor of the state, Ifeanyi Okowa, for initiating these projects and pledged to both continue the development of existing projects and introduce new ones.

Oborevwori said: “This particular road connects all the villages around this area. There is another village down the road called Ewulu; the road will boost commerce in the communities on this route.

“We are happy with the work done so far. The contractor has assured us that between now and December, the asphalting of the road will be completed.

“What is left of the work here is 24 per cent; they have done about 76 per cent of the work. The contractor has been fully mobilised and he has assured us that the job will be completed by next month.

“We are also patronising indigenous contractors and this is one of them that we are using. Looking at the work he has done, we are very satisfied.”

During his visit to the UNIDEL Owa-Alero campus, the governor expressed his satisfaction with the high standard of work achieved at the Engineering and Environmental faculties. He pointed out that the Environmental Sciences Faculty features two 250-seater capacity theater halls, four 50-seater capacity lecture halls, and four studios.

Meanwhile, the Engineering Faculty boasts eight 100-seat capacity halls and an additional 500-seat capacity hall, all of which have been completed and are ready for inauguration.

“On the Engineering Faculty, I am very happy for all they have done here. The workshop is fully equipped and already in use.”

The governor said further: “What is left of the Faculty of Engineering is just to equip the facility. Once that is done, we can come for commissioning. I am very happy with the two different contractors handling the two different projects.

“One good thing about the Faculty of Environmental Sciences is that all the departments are there in the building. So, I commend the contractor for what they have done.”
