Douye Diri, the incumbent governor of Bayelsa State and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, secured victory in his polling unit, Sampou, during the gubernatorial election.
He garnered 218 out of 219 votes cast, while the main rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC), received zero votes, as reported by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The voter turnout was notably low, with only 219 of the 750 registered voters participating in the exercise. Tight security measures were implemented on roads leading to the governor’s hometown. Governor Diri aims for a second term in office.
