Olutimain Alvin, a Nigerian graduate from Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo, expressed his frustration by burning all his academic certificates, spanning from primary school to university, due to his inability to secure employment even 13 years after graduation.
In a viral video on social media, Alvin said: “I graduated in 2010, did my NYSC in 2011. Over 13 years, I have not used these certificates to do anything. It is better to even be illiterate than to have useless certificates.
“What is the essence of a certificate when I have to drag jobs with illiterates ever since I graduated”, he asked.
Nevertheless, he recommended that parents should ensure their children acquire skills that can boost their productivity, independent of relying solely on white-collar jobs.
