The Lagos State Government revealed that approximately 340 husbands reported cases of their wives physically assaulting them within the past ten months.
These reports of domestic violence were compiled between September 2022 and July 2023, as highlighted by Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), during the agency’s quarterly report.
Vivour-Adeniyi also noted an uptick in the reporting of domestic violence cases by males in the previous year. Expressing concern about this trend, she mentioned that the agency is actively addressing these cases to seek peaceful resolutions.
Earlier in June, the agency stated that over six years, 1,108 men had reported experiencing domestic abuse. In response, the agency introduced “The Hidden Crime, Violence Against Men” initiative, aimed at empowering husbands to voice their experiences of various forms of violence.
