The Super Eagles of Nigeria faced a disappointing 1-1 draw against Lesotho’s Crocodiles in their 2026 World Cup qualifying opener held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
The visitors scored first through Motlomelo Mkhawanazi in the 56th minute from a corner. Nigeria’s Semi Ajayi rescued the team with a well-executed header in the 67th minute, but despite numerous attempts, they couldn’t secure a victory.
This result gives Nigeria one point in the group, putting them level with Lesotho, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe. Benin Republic and South Africa, the remaining teams in the group, are yet to play their first match, scheduled for Saturday.
The team, under Jose Pesiero’s leadership, now focuses on their upcoming match against Zimbabwe’s Warriors on Sunday, November 19, at the Huye Stadium in Butare.
