Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian forward, has made it to the 10-player shortlist for the 2023 CAF Men’s Player of the Year, as confirmed by the Confederation of African Football on their official platform.
CAF initially released a 30-man shortlist, which is expected to be narrowed down to three finalists before the award ceremony.
Osimhen, who had an outstanding season with Napoli, scoring 26 goals in 32 league matches, is the frontrunner for the award.
Additionally, he excelled in the UEFA Champions League and was the top scorer in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with 10 goals.
His Napoli teammates – Frank Zambo-Anguissa, Vincent Aboubacar, Riyad Mahrez, Mohamed Salah, and Achraf Hakimi – also made it to the shortlist, along with other notable players like Sadio Mane, Yassine Bounou, Sofyan Amrabat, and Yousef En-Nesyri. The 2023 CAF Awards Gala is set to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, on December 11.
