Super Eagles Held To Draw By Zimbabwe

On Sunday, Nigeria’s Super Eagles faced the Warriors of Zimbabwe in their second World Cup qualifier match at Rwanda’s Huye Stadium, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

The Super Eagles, under pressure following a lackluster draw against Lesotho, didn’t find the desired start as Zimbabwe’s Musona scored a remarkable 30-meter free kick in the 26th minute against Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho.

Despite having Victor Osimhen and Taiwo Awoniyi leading their attack, the 2013 AFCON champions struggled to dominate the game, with Zimbabwe being the stronger team by halftime. Coach Jose Peseiro made three halftime substitutions, bringing on Victor Boniface, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Osayi-Samuel for Ola Oina, Onyeka, and Nathan Tella.

This tactical change paid off when Iheanacho scored an equalizer for the Super Eagles in the 67th minute with a shot inside the left post. Despite Nigeria’s attempts to secure a winning goal in the final stages, the Warriors defended resolutely, denying the Super Eagles a victory.
