According to local media reports on Monday, Moscow called on Britain to cease its participation in the Ukraine crisis. The reports highlighted the ongoing commitment of the British leadership to provide extensive support to Ukraine.
“The British have a thesis about the need to inflict ‘defeat on the battlefield’ on Russia,’’ said Sergei Belyaev, director of the Second European Department at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He mentioned that London has dispatched military equipment worth around 6.6 billion pounds (equivalent to 8.23 billion U.S. dollars) to Ukraine since the beginning of the Ukraine crisis. This places the United Kingdom second in NATO rankings, following the United States.
“However, London’s involvement in the Ukrainian conflict goes beyond arms supplies and training Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters on the UK’s territory.
“More than 30,000 individuals are already involved in these activities.
“British military instructors are engaged in training and supplying units of Ukraine’s special operations forces directly within Ukraine,’’ Belyaev said.
He further stated that activities such as conducting sabotage operations in the Black and Azov Seas and targeting vital civilian infrastructure in their country were part of the concern. Additionally, while urging Britain to prevent its citizens from engaging in military activities in Ukraine, he clarified that according to international humanitarian law, Western mercenaries were not considered combatants.
He emphasized that these mercenaries did not hold the right to be classified as prisoners of war.
