Former President Muhammadu Buhari disclosed in a recent interview with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) that during his eight-year administration, it is possible that a group might have taken control, potentially causing him to lose his hold on power.
When asked if losing his administration to a cabal, Buhari said, “it must have been.”
He added that he was not sure anyone who breached the law was allowed to “walk away.”
Buhari said, “God gave me the opportunity to serve my country, but I did my best. But whether my best was good enough, I leave it for people to judge.”
He mentioned being deeply engrossed in handling domestic affairs as president, emphasizing that his primary challenge was ensuring the nation’s security. Buhari clarified that he refrained from competing with Nigeria’s affluent class by amassing properties like land, houses, and cars during his tenure as the country’s leader.
He highlighted this as the reason for his peaceful post-government life. Buhari also mentioned how certain individuals tried to set traps for him with opportunities, but he avoided falling into these traps. He explained that he was cautious because he understood that if compromised, they would exploit the situation for personal gain at the country’s expense.
In 2016, the former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, initially raised concerns about a cabal’s influence over Buhari’s administration, a claim he disregarded.
