NFF Plans Introduction Of VAR In Domestic League

Ibrahim Gusau, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, has pledged to bring Video Assistant Referee technology to the Nigeria Football League.

This system assists referees in making more accurate decisions regarding player fouls, goal validity, and red card rulings during football matches. Gusau made this commitment during the inaugural retreat of the NPFL management and staff in Abuja.

He mentioned that the NFF will commence the implementation of VAR in Nigerian football by sending referees to countries where VAR is in use to learn about its application and functionality.

“I can assure you that VAR will be effectively put into use in our domestic football before the end of my first tenure as president of the Nigeria Football Federation in 2026. It will be gradual, but we will surely get there,” Gusau stated.
