Simon Rofles, the Managing Director of Bayer Leverkusen, has announced that Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella will be allowed to participate in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, likely joining Nigeria’s squad.
This decision comes after Leverkusen’s CEO, Fernando Carro, previously expressed discontent over the timing of the tournament and threatened legal action to prevent the duo’s participation.
Additionally, Leverkusen will also miss Odilon Kossounou, Edmond Tapsoba, and Amine Adli, who will represent their respective countries during the competition. Rofles clarified that the club will not obstruct the players’ involvement in the tournament.
“If they are called up, they will go,” Rolfes said to Kicker about the five Bayer Leverkusen players in line to represent their respective countries at the AFCON.
