Lionel Messi is reportedly poised to reunite with his former Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez at Inter Miami, as per Fabrizio Romano. Together at Barcelona for six seasons, they formed a formidable partnership alongside Neymar, wreaking havoc on defenses across Europe.
During their tenure, the trio clinched four La Liga titles, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup.
Initially, there were concerns regarding Inter Miami’s ability to secure Suarez due to MLS regulations limiting teams from signing more than three players above a specified wage threshold. However, recent reports suggest that the Florida-based club has navigated around these rules, allegedly reaching a one-year agreement with Suarez.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news on social media, tweeting: “Luís Suárez to Inter Miami, all set to be sealed and announced — here we go!
“Contract ready after verbal agreement reached one month ago — one-year deal for Suárez.
“Deal will also include an option for further season.
“Messi and Suárez, together again.
Suarez is set to reunite with former Barcelona colleagues Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, as Miami’s owner, David Beckham, orchestrates a reunion of the past squad. Together, Suarez and Messi formed part of Barcelona’s attacking trio alongside Neymar from 2014 to 2020. Their collective successes include winning the UEFA Champions League and Club World Cup in 2015, along with clinching four La Liga titles, all alongside Alba and Busquets.
In a memorable farewell at Gremio, Suarez participated in the team’s final home game, netting the winning goal against Vasco de Gama. Following the match, amidst rain, he took a lap around the field to bid adieu to the local fans. Joined by his wife and three children, touching scenes unfolded with chants of his name echoing throughout the stadium.
Amid speculation after Messi’s move to Miami in July, it was anticipated that Suarez would depart Brazil for the MLS. Swift negotiations between Suarez and Gremio led to an early release from his contract.
Despite enduring persistent knee problems, Suarez remarkably played 32 league matches for Gremio, scoring 15 goals. Across all competitions this year, he contributed a total of 24 goals and 17 assists.
