A tragic incident occurred in Oudenaarde, Belgium, as a large Christmas tree fell over, resulting in the death of a woman and injuring two others, according to authorities.
Security camera footage broadcasted by Belgian news outlets depicted the brightly lit 20-meter high tree slowly tilting and collapsing near a Christmas market while a merry-go-round was in motion on the historic town square.
As per a spokesperson for the Oost-Vlaanderen province prosecutor, the victim was identified as a 63-year-old woman from Oudenaarde, while two women from the same town sustained minor injuries in the incident.
The incident took place amid Storm Pia, which had caused disruptions in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands before hitting western Belgium. The weather service had previously issued a yellow code warning for coastal areas in anticipation of the storm’s impact.
