The Delta State Executive Council (EXCO) granted approval on Friday for the disbursement of N3,887,277,784.66 billion as the second reimbursement from the World Bank, designated for the D-CARES implementation program by the state government.
Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, the State Commissioner for Economic Planning, revealed this during a briefing for journalists about the outcomes of the State Exco meeting chaired by Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
Mr. Ekedayen specified that this amount has been disbursed across various sectors such as Direct Cash Transfer, FADAMA, Livelihood, and Direct Labour. He emphasized that the endorsement aligns with Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to advancing human capital development and social intervention objectives.
“As we speak, you can confirm that some Deltans have already started receiving alerts and this is part of the governor’s agenda for human capital development as well as social intervention.
“This is going to be a continuous exercise. We are believing that as from early January, next year, the coordinating body of the programme in Abuja, NG-CARES will come for another round of independent verification exercise.
“During the verification exercise, Delta State will be assessed based on what we have done so far and hopefully, the state will be given some additional reimbursement,” he said.
Regarding the recently enacted 2024 Delta State budget endorsed by the governor, the Commissioner expressed gratitude towards the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, and the House members for swiftly passing the budget.
Mr. Ekedayen clarified that the increase of the appropriation bill by N10 billion before its approval aimed to create opportunities for further infrastructural development.
He highlighted that based on the recent uptick in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), the expected revenue surged to N144 billion from the initial N110 billion, affirming that the implementation of the 2024 state budget would not encounter any impediments.
